Date: 12 August 2026
Speaker: Mr. Kumarasaravanan, Researcher
An Electronics Components Identification and Testing Workshop was conducted at Mahalakshmi Tech Campus on 12 August 2026. The session was handled by Mr. Kumarasaravanan, Researcher, who provided students with practical exposure to identifying electronic components and testing their basic characteristics using a multimeter.
Components Covered
Resistor: Identified using colour codes and tested by measuring resistance in ohms.
Capacitor: Identified based on markings and tested for charging/discharging behaviour and capacitance.
Diode: Identified by its polarity and tested for forward and reverse bias using the diode mode of a multimeter.
LED: Identified by its polarity and tested for forward conduction and illumination.
Transistor: Identified by its package and pin configuration and tested using diode-test mode to identify its terminals and basic functionality.
Inductor: Identified by its coil structure and tested for continuity and resistance.
IC (Integrated Circuit): Identified by its package, number and pin configuration, with emphasis on correct orientation.
Potentiometer: Identified as a variable resistor and tested by checking the change in resistance while rotating the knob.
The workshop enabled students to connect theoretical concepts with practical identification and testing techniques, strengthening their understanding of fundamental electronic components and improving their confidence in using laboratory instruments.
Outcome:
The hands-on session enhanced students’ basic electronics knowledge, component identification skills, and practical troubleshooting abilities.
