Report on Idea Club Activities

The Idea Club of Mahalakshmi Tech Campus organized an engaging activity today, where students were given a thought-provoking problem statement: “How to improve concentration and how to avoid distraction.” Students were divided into teams of 10 members each. Every team brainstormed and presented innovative ideas to address the challenge.

The session witnessed enthusiastic participation, creative thinking, and teamwork. The following 10 unique solutions were identified:

  • Digital Detox Hour – Students suggested creating a dedicated “no-device zone” in campus for at least one hour daily, where peers can focus purely on reading, solving puzzles, or mindful practices without gadgets.
  • Focus Pods – Setting up small soundproof booths or pods in the library where students can sit individually to study in a distraction-free environment.
  • Gamified Concentration Apps – Developing mobile applications that turn concentration into a game, where students earn points for staying off social media and focusing on tasks.
  • Mindful Breathing Corners – Establishing quiet corners with guided breathing or meditation aids to help students re-center their focus whenever they feel distracted.
  • Task-Chunking Boards – Using campus-wide digital boards or group apps where tasks are broken into micro-goals; checking off each micro-goal gives a sense of achievement, motivating students to stay focused.
  • Distraction Jar – Students write down distracting thoughts on slips of paper and drop them into a “jar,” symbolically parking the thought aside and returning to concentration.
  • Peer Accountability Partners – Pairing students so that each is responsible for checking in on the other’s progress, encouraging discipline and reducing off-task behavior.
  • Brain Gym Activities – Short, fun physical or mental warm-up exercises before study sessions to activate focus and improve alertness.
  • Sensory Management Tools – Providing noise-canceling headphones, soothing background music playlists, or even natural aroma diffusers in study spaces to create an atmosphere of focus.
  • Reward and Reflection System – Encouraging students to reward themselves after focused study sessions (e.g., a short walk, music break) and reflect daily on what helped them stay away from distractions.

The activity not only sparked innovative problem-solving but also encouraged students to apply these ideas in their own academic journey. The collaborative spirit and creativity displayed made the event a remarkable success.
